Although you are more likely to be exposed to allergens outdoors, allergens can still wind up in your home. Reducing the presence of allergens can help ease your symptoms. To help you with this task, here are some suggested steps you can take in some of the rooms in your home.

Bedroom

Pollen, dust, and other allergens can make their way to your bedroom on your clothing and shoes. In addition to worrying about outdoor allergens getting inside, you also have to consider dust mites and other indoor allergens that can aggravate your allergies. There are several steps you can take to reduce allergens in the bedroom.

For instance, you can have your mattress cleaned and sanitized through a company like Hy Gieni Tech. A mattress sanitizing company can help remove dust mites, dirt, and bodily fluids that are trapped in your bed's fabric. Cleaning the mattress can also extend the lifespan of your mattress. Once the mattress is cleaned, you can encase it and the pillows in dust mite-proof covers. Whenever you remove the covers to wash them, use hot water.

Kitchen

In the kitchen, there are several places that allergens can be found. For instance, moisture from the refrigerator can lead to the development of mold. Fortunately, wiping away the moisture on a daily basis can help prevent mold growth. You also need to check the seal of the refrigerator to ensure it is in good condition. If it is not in good condition, the seal needs to be replaced.

For a long term solution to reducing moisture in the kitchen, consider installing  a vented exhaust fan. If you currently have an exhaust fan, you need to check if it filters the heated air outside. Not all exhaust fans do.

Basement

Due to the location of the basement, it is easy for allergens to build up and cause problems for you and others in your home who suffer from breathing disorders. To reduce the allergens, you need to check for moisture problems, such as leaks, on a regular basis. The leaks need to be repaired as soon as possible.

In addition to this, you need to remove any carpeting that has been previously water damaged. Opting for vinyl or concrete will be safer.

Assessing your home on a regular basis to determine if there are other opportunities for reducing the allergens in your home is also a good idea. Steps, such as sanitizing the mattress, can help prevent future breathing problems.
