If you recently bought a new puppy, your probably kids love it but you're likely not too happy with all the messes that it's leaving behind. But don't get rid of the puppy. Instead, take advantage of these simple steps to help you clean up the mess and remove the odors.

Absorb the Moisture

When it comes to puppy urine, the first thing you want to do is absorb the moisture. As soon as you see your puppy piddle, you need to grab a handful of paper towels and place them directly over the puddle. Then cover the paper towels with a piece of plastic wrap. Now, set several heavy books on top of that. The plastic wrap will prevent the urine from soaking through to your books. Leave the paper towels in place for about 15 minutes. This will ensure that all of the urine is absorbed.

Clean the Area

Once the urine has been absorbed, remove the books and carefully discard the soiled paper towels. Then fill a spray bottle with fresh water. Add about 1 tablespoon of enzyme stain cleaner and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. The enzyme cleaner will remove the stain, and the lemon juice will remove the odor.

Saturate the urine area with the cleaning solution. You'll want to begin spraying water around the outside perimeter of the urine puddle. Spray the water inward towards the center of the puddle. Beginning in the center of the puddle will allow the residual urine to spread out away from the center. Beginning on the outer perimeter will help contain the urine. Once the puddle is saturated, allow the water to sit for about 10 minutes.

After the cleaner has sat for about 10 minutes, you'll dry the area. Use the same procedure as you used to absorb the original urine puddle. Be sure to use clean paper towels to absorb the cleaning solution. Allow the area to dry. If you can still smell urine, repeat the process one more time.
