Selling Your Home? Make Sure You Clean The Carpets

If you are selling your home, you want to make sure everything is clean as it can be. One thing you need to clean is the carpeting. The carpeting can take a lot of wear and tear, especially if you have children or a large family. Dirty carpeting can put out odors in your home. Because you are in your home a lot, you may not smell these odors at all, but someone viewing your home will be able to. To help you, below are two tips to get your carpets clean.

Clean Your Carpet Yourself

If you want, you can clean your carpeting yourself. First, you need to remove the dirt and dust from the carpeting. You do this by thoroughly vacuuming. Remove furniture from the room if possible so you can ensure all carpeting is vacuumed. Go over the carpet more than one time to ensure all dirt and dust are removed. This is especially true if you have pets in your home, as they can get a lot of hair into the carpet. If you do have pets, use a rubber squeegee over the carpet to remove the hair before you start vacuuming.

Rent a carpet cleaner if you do not have one and clean your entire carpeting. It should come with complete instructions on how to use it. Many companies that rent these can also provide you with a carpet cleaning solution. When you are finished, sprinkle baking soda onto the carpeting and let it sit for about an hour or longer. Baking soda can help remove odors that may still be lingering. Vacuum the carpeting again to remove the baking soda.

If you have carpet stains that did not come out, purchase a carpet stain product to see if you can get them out. If not, a professional is needed to do this.

Hire a Carpet Cleaning Company

If you do not want to do this on your own, hire a carpet cleaning company. They have professional equipment that works much better than what you can purchase. The carpet cleaning company will first remove all furniture from the rooms as they clean. They start out by vacuuming the carpeting with a vacuum cleaner that has strong suction.

The carpet cleaning company then uses their carpet cleaner to clean your carpeting. They may use steam cleaning, which injects hot water and cleaner deep into the carpet, then a wet vac machine extracts the dirty water. When they are finished, your carpet will only be damp. You can set up fans if you want the carpet to dry faster. If there are stains on the carpet, the cleaning company has professional stain removers they will use.

Once you clean the carpets, consider what else you need to clean, such as the walls, baseboards, and more. For more information about carpet cleaning, contact a local company.
